The car showroom and MOT workshop at 95 High Street go, replaced by a bigger shop with a food counter, six EV bays and two jet washes. Closing times are fixed.
The petrol station site at 95 High Street, Bidford-on-Avon, can be rebuilt. Stratford-on-Avon District Council issued the decision notice on 27 August, the day after its Planning Committee considered the application. The car showroom and MOT workshop on the site will be demolished.
The permission, reference 24/03145/FUL, was sought by Motor Fuel Group Limited. It covers:
- demolition of the existing sales building, car showroom and workshop, about 866 square metres in total
- a new sales building of about 291 square metres, with a food to go counter and a cash machine
- a hub of six electric vehicle charging bays
- two jet wash bays
- a new forecourt canopy, customer parking and a bin store
The existing pumps stay where they are. The figures come from the officer’s report to the committee.
The hours are fixed by condition
Bidford-on-Avon Parish Council’s original objection warned that a 24-hour food outlet could mean noise in a residential area. The permission answers that directly: nothing on the site is allowed to run around the clock.

Other conditions require the council to approve external materials, any outdoor lighting, and a contamination check before work starts and again before the site opens. The notice states the permission does not cover signage, which needs separate advertisement consent. Work must start within three years, so by 27 August 2029.
Four jobs go, more arrive
The site currently holds three businesses: the petrol station, the car sales centre and the MOT and service centre. The car sales and MOT operations will be lost, and the officer’s report puts that at four full-time jobs.
Against that, the applicant told the council the redeveloped petrol station would employ nine full-time and four part-time staff, against three full-time and two part-time now. The report concludes the site would likely go from 9 to 13 jobs overall.
For MOT and servicing, the report notes alternative workshops already operating on the Bidford Industrial Estate to the north east of the village, naming Hopkins Motors and Smallbrook Auto Services.
Who objected, and what changed
The application reached committee because the parish council objected. Its March 2025 objection raised four points: potential 24-hour noise, the impact of the substation on nearby homes, the access arrangements, and a request for traffic modelling given the site sits opposite the B439 and Victoria Road junction and close to a school bus stop.
After amended plans, the parish council waived two of its objections in April 2026 but maintained its concerns on highways and traffic modelling. Warwickshire County Council’s highways team raised no objection. Five letters of objection came in from residents, with more after re-consultation, mostly on noise and the loss of the car business; one comment raised access to the Crawford Memorial Hall during demolition.
What it means for you
- If you use the site’s MOT or servicing, that business will close when the rebuild goes ahead. The two named alternatives are on the Bidford Industrial Estate.
- The site gains a hub of six EV charging bays, open 6am to 11pm Monday to Saturday.
- The food counter cannot open past 10pm on a weekday, 6pm on a Saturday or 4pm on a Sunday, whoever the operator turns out to be. The planning papers do not name one.
