All 28 food hygiene ratings published for Stratford-on-Avon district in September are 5s. August's lows: a 2 for Hotel Indigo and a 1 for The Frog at Bidford.

Every food hygiene rating published for Stratford-on-Avon district in September is a 5. The Food Standards Agency register shows 28 inspections between 1 and 19 September, and none came back lower (FSA register, Stratford-on-Avon, read 3 October 2026).

That run started in August. The last rating below 5 anywhere in the district was a 3 on 20 August. Since then, 43 inspections in a row have produced a 5.

August was not all good news, though. Three businesses were given a 2 or a 1 that month, including a hotel restaurant in central Stratford. They are set out further down.

August’s low ratings

The register recorded 38 inspections in August. Of those, 32 were 5s, one was a 4 and two were 3s. Three were rated 2 or below.

Business Rating Inspected What the inspectors found
The Frog, 65 High Street, Bidford-on-Avon 1 5 August Management: major improvement necessary. Premises: improvement necessary. Food handling: generally satisfactory
Hotel Indigo And The Woodsman, Chapel Street, Stratford-upon-Avon 2 10 August Food handling: improvement necessary. Management: generally satisfactory. Premises: good
The Plough Inn, Stretton-on-Fosse 2 13 August Premises: improvement necessary. Food handling and management: generally satisfactory

Bidford-on-Avon is about seven miles west of Stratford. Stretton-on-Fosse is about ten miles south, near Moreton-in-Marsh.

None of the three has published a right of reply on the register, and none is marked as awaiting a new rating. Any business rated below 5 can appeal, ask for a re-inspection once it has made improvements, and publish a reply on the register. A rating reflects the day of the inspection.

What it means for you

  • Check before you book. Any business can be searched free at ratings.food.gov.uk.
  • The sticker in the window may be out of date. If it differs from the register, the register is the current rating.
  • A new business shows as “awaiting inspection” until its first visit. That is not a bad sign on its own.
  • The latest inspection on the register is dated 19 September. Later visits will appear as the council publishes them, and we will cover them in our October roundup.
